Covid-19 Update: Regathering Update 4

Hello Woodland Park family,

It was great to see so many of you at our outdoor service on September 13! We are planning similar opportunities for later this year, including an outdoor Fall Festival on Friday evening, October 30. You’ll hear more about that in the days ahead.

We’re coming up on our 15th weekend of resuming onsite gatherings. Even with the awkwardness of social distancing, registrations, and masks, God has given us some sweet times of worship and encouragement as we’ve been together. Still, we know that some people will continue to join us online from home due to personal health concerns, while others feel it’s best for you and your family to wait until masks are no longer required.

No matter your situation I want all of you to know that you are loved. Each one of you is a vital part of the Body of Christ, and when we can’t be together—for whatever the reason—we feel that loss. I know that it might seem like we’re not moving forward. Many days I feel the same way! You may wonder if we will forever be stuck six feet apart from each other with our faces covered. There are days I wonder the same thing. Truthfully, I don’t like it at all! But the Lord quickly and graciously reminds me that He is still sovereign in the midst of uncertainty. He is still Lord. He is still head of His Church.

Since mid-March, our Pastors and the General Council of Elders have continually wrestled and prayed about how to best love and lead our Body. In preparation for regathering, and in seeking to follow the biblical principle of pursuing wise counsel, we assembled a Medical Task Force of doctors from within Woodland Park. We have also been in conversation with other local churches who share the same situation. But most importantly, we are seeking the face of God and asking the Holy Spirit to provide the wisdom and courage to plot a course forward.

Even as we celebrate regathering onsite and resuming groups for children, at this present time we will continue the use of masks. The good news is that this will not go on forever! While we can’t give you an exact date or time frame right now, we do humbly ask for your prayers and your patience as we seek to discern the Lord’s leading in this matter. We will do our best to keep you updated on next steps as the Lord makes them clear to our leadership.

For the time being, we are committed to helping each of you connect to God and to each other. Our online and onsite weekend services will continue. Our student and children’s groups  are settling into a regular rhythm of meeting. Groups are regathering and being newly formed on campus, in homes, and in other locations. Don’t lose heart, God is still on His throne. Pray with us that His Kingdom would come and His will be done on earth—beginning with us, His church—as it is in Heaven.

I love you and count it an honor to be your pastor. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s walk through this together.
